Behind the Blog

Aug92013 posted by Jodie and Jen 4 Comments

Let us introduce to you… this month’s

Today we are super excited because we are
getting to know one of our local blogger friends…

Kiki from
Kiki and Company

What’s the most interesting job you’ve had?
Subway Sandwich Artist. I lasted for 1 month and didn’t eat there again for 12 years.

If you could live in a cartoon, which one would it be?
I hope this isn’t too crazy… Phineas and Ferb. My kids are obsessed… and I LOVE how creative and fun they are. I’d either like to be part of the gang, or I could handle being their mother… they would certainly make summer vacation interesting.

What was the first concert you went to?
The Beach Boys when I was in 3rd grade. I’ve always loved their music and still play it in hopes that my kids will always love it too.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up I had a lot of dreams. I wanted to be an artist of some kind, I wanted to marry a doctor or a lawyer, and I wanted to have kids. Apparently dreams come true… I have the best 4 (almost 5) kids around and enjoy being their mother everyday, my husband supports all of our crazy dreams as an attorney (though he didn’t know what he wanted to do when we got married), and I get to dabble here and there as an artist. I really am a proponent of having dreams and goals and revamping them, trying new things, failing, succeeding and doing it all from the time you are little!

What is your favorite kind of pie?
Hands down, Lemon Meringue. It is ALWAYS best served really cold… for breakfast!

If you could have unlimited storage of one thing, what would it be?
Time with my husband! He is one busy man and I try to eat up every second I get with him.

Would you rather live in Disneyland or Sea World?
Neither. I know, I know… mother of the year here… I couldn’t handle the fishy smell at Sea World, nor the craziness that ensues at Disneyland. I COULD handle living every. single. day. at the beach.

If you could choose one super power, what would it be?
Right this very minute, I would choose a power that would turn Las Vegas 65 degrees during the summer (I am 5 weeks shy of having baby #5 and in need of some cool weather!), but if I had to choose one for all time, it would be teleportation. I could do without the crazy airplane rides, the weekly grocery shopping excursions… and I could easily use that power to take my family to all of the amazing places we dream of going.

Did you have a nickname in high school?
One coach in high school nicknamed me “Pokey”. I ran track for 3 years, but was NEVER the fastest person around. I knew this, but did it to keep in shape for my other two seasons of sports that I did love… volleyball and basketball. I was also known as “Socks” from other teams as I wore a crazy pair of knee high socks to every volleyball and basketball game in high school.

Apple juice or orange juice?
I like both, but I prefer a big glass of water filled with Sonic ice (that is a must to have in my freezer at all times).

Window or aisle seat on an airplane?
It depends if I’m with or without my kids. Without my kids, the window… who doesn’t love seeing the world from a different perspective! With my kids… DEFINITELY the aisle… I have to keep them contained!

Are you a hugger?
Yes! I’m a hugger. My whole family are huggers, which made for a really awkward meeting of my husband (who wasn’t a hugger) and my Dad when they met the first time! But I can also respect boundaries, so if a good handshake is preferred, I oblige.  🙂

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
Nap. Bake. and watch AFV reruns with my family… (pretty exciting stuff around here!)

Tell us 3 random things about yourself…
1. I am a vegetarian, but I don’t like telling people. When I told my husband while we were dating, he made me promise that I would still cook meat for him when we got married. I do, but even now I only serve meat dishes 2-3 times a week… and he prefers it that way!
2. I am NOT organized. I have been working on this slowly in my 12 years of being married, but it is one thing I wish I was really good at.
3. I love happy, real, know-who-you-are kind of people. I smell fake a million miles away and always try to be that real person I like to be around.

We just love Kiki and hope you enjoyed getting to know a little more about her as much as we did!!
Now it’s time to take a look at some of her fun projects…

I know this was posted a bit ago, but I had to jump in and say how much I like Kiki! I've had the chance to rub shoulders briefly a few times and really enjoyed it! She is so talented and genuinely nice to be around. I love her super power choices, being pregnant with No. 5 this summer too, I feel she is right on the money! Her designs are light and refreshing. I've pinned her lunch box jokes to spice up lunches in the next month or so. Thanks for the chance to get to know her better!

Let us introduce to you…this month’s
Today we are getting to know the super…
Kristen Duke
at
Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke
(isn’t she a cutie?)
camera
We just love Kristen and would love for you to get to know her too!
So, let’s get down to business…shall we?!
Tell us a song you knew all the words to in high school.
What song DIDN’T I know all the words to in high school? One of my faves to sing that I sang with my best friend was “Stay” by Lisa Loeb but we also dreamed about our future husbands with a country song, “I love the way you love me” by John Michael Montgomery.

What was the first concert you went to?

Debbie Gibson. Loved her, had posters on my wall in elementary school.
If you could choose one super power, what would it be?
Wow, that’s a tough one. I wish I had the ability to not sleep (though I do love sleep) because I need more hours in the day. In conjunction with that, the bags under my eyes would be smooth and firm and not be affected by those “up all night” hours.
If you could live in a cartoon, which one would it be?
Strawberry Shortcake cartoons are so fun and colorful with berry treats around every corner. I think that it would be delightful to live in Strawberryland.
As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
Mother/singer/actress I’ve got a drawing from 2nd grade that highlighted why I wanted to be all 3. I’ve got the mother part down, I sing to my kids, and sometimes I have to hide my emotions, does that count as acting?
Would you rather live in Disneyland or Sea World?
Since I know my girls at Eighteen25 will be at Disneyland, I gotta go there.
If you were an animal which one would you be and why?
Kangaroo because it starts with a “k” and I think it’s cute 😉

If you could have an unlimited storage of one thing, what would it be?
 White chocolate chips
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
I do enjoy a Sunday nap—but not too long because then I get groggy. I also like writing in my journal and making my kids write in their journals.
Are you a hugger?
I am a hugger for people I want to hug. I despise the awkward forced hugs.
Have you ever met anyone famous?
Hmmm, I recently met The Pioneer Woman, she was really down to earth and gracious.
What’s your favorite Disney movie?
I always loved the songs in the Little Mermaid as a child. I do love the bright and vibrant colors in the modern Disney’s though.
Tell us 3 random things about yourself…
1. I’m a chronic hair puller—I have coarse/thick hair (I know, I’m grateful) and have an obsession with feeling around in my strands of hair for the thickest and bumpiest hairs. I’ve had roommates and friends and parents challenge me to stop. I just can’t. I love it too much, but I hate it too. That’s what we call an addiction, right?
2. I love to travel and see unique events in the places I visit. Hubby and I went to live stages of the Tour de France a few years ago, it’s a travel highlight.
3. I rarely make my bed. I wish I kept a more tidy home. I try…sometimes…
Didn’t you love getting to know Kristen?
She is one talented girl and we are just positive you’ll love her blog.
Here are a few of our favorite projects that Kristen has done…
  Citrius Kitchen Remodel

summer sunshine mantel and kitchen makeover
  Master Bedroom Makeover
lalaloopsy party and master bedroom makeover
sliding barn door tv cover

Behind the Blog

Jun142013 posted by Jodie and Jen 7 Comments

we are so excited to share this months

Today we are taking a look behind the blog…
Landee See, Landee Do

everyone say… hello Landee!!

Tell us a song you knew all the words to in high school.
Ice Ice Baby!! But who didn’t, am I right? I also knew every word to every Pearl Jam’s album Ten. It was the soundtrack to my entire high school career.

If you could choose one super power, what would it be?
Teleportation! Hands down. If I could wiggle my nose like Samantha on Bewitched or cross my arms and blink my eyes like I Dream of Jeannie and be somewhere else in .5 seconds I would be the happiest person on earth! I love going places but hate the travel time.

Share one truth and one lie about yourself and let us guess which is which.
Ok, ok… let’s see…
1) I played two years of varsity basketball in high school and was captain my senior year.
2) I got caught sneaking a boy into my dorm room after visiting hours at BYU.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
A mom! I literally had no other careers in mind as a child. This is evidenced by my choice of major/minor in college… Humanities/Art History. Yeah, not very employable. 🙂 If I could do it all over again I would have at least chosen a major which would help with motherhood such as photography or Childhood Development. As it is, I’m winging it as a mom but can spot a Renoir or Vermeer a mile away.

What is your favorite kind of pie?
Banana Cream. Nothing beats a good Banana Cream pie. I even asked for one this year for my birthday rather than cake.

Would you rather live in Disneyland or Sea World?
Disneyland! I love me some Sea World but the fish smell and splash zone would get old after a while. At Disneyland I could eat Dole Pineapple Whips all day long and live in Cinderella’s castle. Geez, now you’ve got me wishing I actually did live in Disneyland.

Did you have a nickname in high school?
I did have a nickname in high school! My maiden name is Jeppson so people called me Judy Jetson. I know, super lame. 🙂 Not a TON of people called me that but enough that that is what I had on the back of my Powder Puff football jersey.

Apple juice or orange juice?
Neither! It’s Diet Dr. Pepper or nothing for this girl! Actually, I can gag down some water every once in a while but I definitely don’t do juice.

What’s your favorite Disney movie?
Toy Story. I love the concept, the characters and the story. I could watch it 1000 times and it would never get old. A close second is The Little Mermaid. I think I’ve actually seen The Little Mermaid 1000 times and I’m still not tired of it.

Have you ever met anyone famous?
Yes! The eighteen25 girls. If any of you ever have the opportunity as well, ask them about how awkward, silly and star-struck my SIL and I were about it! I’m surprised they didn’t get a restraining order against us right then and there!

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
Make cookies and read a home decor magazine. These two things rarely happen but they still are my favorite Sunday afternoon activities.

Tell us 3 random things about you…
1. I grew up in Boise, ID but my family moved to New Jersey for my junior and senior years of high school. Before that move I had never been east past Wyoming and had never been on an airplane! It was a crazy case of culture shock at first but ended up being one of the greatest experiences of my life.
2. I am a scrapbooking supplies collector (read: hoarder) but haven’t done any scrapbooking in over 7 years. It’s a sickness.
3. When I was three years old I was riding a tombstone like a horse (where were my parents??) and it tipped over and crushed one of my legs. I still have a dent in my thigh where the muscle never quite recovered. My brother calls it my “Tombstone Leg” and likes to point it out whenever possible.

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know our good friend Landee. She’s pretty much one of the funniest people we know. We just love her!!

Be sure to head over to Landee See, Landee Do and visit awhile. You’re gonna enjoy it there!

Here are some of our favorite posts of hers…

pray printable • Teacher Gift Printable • More than yesterday Printable

Behind the Blog

May172013 posted by Jodie and Jen 10 Comments

We are beyond excited for this new series…
One of the best things blogging has blessed our lives with is friendship.
the 3 of us have grown closer as friends
we consider all of you our friends
and
there are a number of bloggers that we now consider great friends!
In Behind the Blog we’ll take a look at the amazing blogger behind the blog and get to know more about them. Who they are, what they love and silly little fun facts about them!
so lets gets started, shall we…
today we’ll be looking behind the blog of

Thirty Handmade Days

say a big hello to our friend Mique!

What was the first concert you went to?
Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation Tour. Be Jealous.
What’s the most interesting job you’ve had?
I worked in the laundry room at BYU washing jock straps for the football team. My friend gave me the “golden jock strap award” – she spray painted a jock strap gold.
If you could choose one super power, what would it be?
Mind reading. I over analyze everything and like details. I would love it and drive myself nuts at the same time.
As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
A mom. Always a mom. I also wanted to be a hair stylist and own a salon and then a teacher.
What is your favorite kind of pie?
I’m not really a pie fan. But I do like a good banana cream. Never chocolate anything.
Would you rather live in Disneyland or Sea World?
TOUGH! I went to prom at Sea World. But Disneyland is always the answer. With a name like “mique” – DL is the obvious choice, right?
Did you have a nickname in high school?
My best friend nicknamed me Moose – because I have a deep laugh and sound like a moose (?!). And a boyfriend’s little sister nicknamed me Energizer Bunny – because I keep going and going. I never stop talking. Shocking, no? I have lots of other nicknames from my family too.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’ve been lucky to be able to travel a lot and all over the world with my family. But I’d love to go with Josh to Europe – I’d take him to the northern part of Spain and he would take me to Switzerland. I went to Spain with my family to pick up my brother without Josh. And his mom is from Switzerland so he’s been several times, but I’ve never been.
Have you ever met anyone famous?
Do the eighteen25 girls count? 🙂 Actually I met Billy Baldwin & Chynna Phillips at the movie theater when I was a teenager. It was before they got married… They were very nice and totally normal.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
Sleep. Read. Wear pajamas. Make treats.
3 random things about Mique…
01 | I make a weird clicking noise when I sleep if I’m super tired. The only other person that I know who does it is my Mom.
02 | I was on the Homecoming Court and loved pretty much everything about high school.
03 | On our honeymoon I qualified for the kids drink vouches because I was only 20 years old. Unlimited soda for the entire cruise. Woot Woot! (we’re celebrating 15 years this summer 🙂
We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know some fun things about Mique as much as we have. She really is an amazing woman and it makes us so happy to be able to call her our friend!!
Be sure to check out some of our favorite posts of hers…
