Custom Gift Wrap From Kids’ Artwork

So excited to have Nat from My Sister’s Suitcase back today!

Hi there! I’m Nat from My Sister’s Suitcase, excited to be back with you fabulous eighteen25 readers today! My kindergartner is really into writing, drawing, and making little gifts for members of our family. Today I’d like to share how we turned her drawings and writing into adorable custom gift wrap – for less than $1! It’s perfect for birthday or Mother’s Day and will be a big hit with the grandparents!

There are two ways you can do this. Digital…or old-school. I’m going to show you the old-school way, but if you’re computer savvy you could easily scan in drawings and copy/paste to get the same effect.
I bet you already have everything you need to make this fun wrapping paper! I started by giving my daughter a blank piece of copy paper and a Sharpie. I helped with the spelling and she made a Happy Birthday page (with cute little slices of cake!) and Happy Mother’s Day.

Next we made some copies of her artwork. I have a printer/copier combo, but you can take the pages with you to your local copy center and make them for a few cents each. Since they are black and white, it should be really inexpensive!

I shrunk the images down on the copier: the Happy Birthday page was at 40%, Happy Mother’s Day at 60%.

I made 4 or 5 copies and cut out the parts I wanted. You can also make 1 copy, copy that (to make 4 images), etc. until you have enough. Glue what you want for the pattern onto a blank piece of copy paper. If you’re at a copy place, they should be able to give you one. Lay out the pieces in all directions for a true wrapping paper look. Use a glue stick to get all the edges down or they will show up when you copy!

Once you have your pattern set, make 2 copies of it, glue the long edge together and get it copied as an 11×17 page – you can do this at Staples or most copy centers. It should be under 20 cents a sheet! This size is perfect for a DVD, book, CD or small box!

You can also blow this up and make an Engineering Print at Staples –
the 18X24 size is only $1.99 and is perfect for a shirt box!

This might seem like a lot of work, but if you do it once you can make plenty of copies to keep with your wrapping supplies to use all year! I can’t wait to wrap gifts for grandparents, aunts and uncles and my kids’ friends!
