Play Dough Party Favors

Jun12010 posted by Jamie 18 Comments

today’s idea: play dough party favors
what you need:

* small rubbermaid square containers

* small cookie cutters
* ribbon
* play dough (recipe below)
* play dough recipe print out

step one: download + print out play dough recipe cards.
step two: cut out cards and punch holes on both sides (or just one hole in a top corner)
step three: make a few batches of the play dough, adding food coloring to match your party colors.
PLAY DOUGH
2 cups water
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons oil
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
food coloring
mix together.
cook over medium heat until it pulls apart from pan.
knead until smooth.
step four: fill containers two-thirds full with play dough.
step five: string the ribbon through recipe cards and cookie cutter and then wrap around container.
step six: hand out to your party guests… as they are heading out the door. 😉

    So glad to see your great ideas right now. My kids' bday parties are coming up and I'm trying to think of alternatives to the usual goodie bags. Something "greener" and more fun!

    Two decades ago I made this playdough for my children in every shade in the rainbow. Oh, the fun memories…

    Just an idea to add. You can use unsweetened kool-aid to the dough for color and then it smells good too!

    I love your blog! Such great ideas! My family used to make the homemade playdough – but instead of food coloring you add Cool Aide and then it smells good too. Then we would play play dough pictionary…very fun!

    All of a sudden I wish my boys were 3 & 6 (instead of 14 & 17) so I could make these as party favours 🙂

    What a great idea! We did homemade play dough as valentines one year…included the recipe and molded the playdough into hearts and put it in a little bag…but I love the little container idea! I think I'll use this idea for my twins' next bday!

    Homemade playdough is the best! I used it as a favor for my 2 year olds party…it was a huge hit! I used kool-aid to color and it smelled amamzing! Even the adults without kids wanted some, to re-live their childhoods 🙂

    I love this idea!!! Wanting to make playdough for my son's pre-k party but have several children (and parents) with many allergies – including gluten. Do you think this recipe will work with rice flour and Koolaid??

    Hi Alana… I'm not sure if the rice flour would work or not. Maybe try it with a small batch to see how it holds up.
