Halloween Reverse Canvas

Sep42018 posted by Jodie and Jen 2 Comments

I can’t believe Spooktacular September is already here! I’m looking forward to all the fun festive projects that will be shared this month. As always, I’m excited to be part of this frightfully fun series. This Halloween Reverse Canvas is a super easy and quick home decor project to spook up your mantel for the holiday.Halloween Reverse Canvas with Free Cut File

When it comes to Halloween decor, I always go for cutesy rather than spooky. I don’t do spooky costumes either. They just aren’t my thing. And this Halloween reverse canvas fits perfectly into the cutesy home decor I already own.

To make this Halloween reverse canvas you will need:

  • Painters Canvas
  • xacto knife
  • stapler
  • black paint and paint brush
  • scissors
  • Witch Way to Candy Cut File
  • black iron on vinyl
  • craft cutting machine
  • iron or Cricut EasyPress

Upload the Halloween SVG cut file into your cutting program software. I used Cricut Design Space. Size the design to fit within the frame of the painters canvas. When using iron on vinyl with any cut machine, make sure to mirror the image design before you cut it. Choose iron on material or heat transfer vinyl to cut the design.

Making a Halloween Reverse Canvas

Iron on vinyl should be placed onto your cutting mat with the shiny side down. Load the mat into the cutting machine and cut the design.

While waiting for the design to cut, cut the canvas off of the painters canvas with an xacto knife. One the back of the canvas, run the xacto knife along the staples. Once the canvas is removed from the frame of the canvas, paint the frame black and let it dry. (Sorry my pictures are in the wrong order here.)

Weed out all the unwanted vinyl from the design, keeping the plastic cover sheet in tact. Place the design down onto the canvas you just removed from the frame. The design should be the right way and centered on the canvas.

Use an iron or EasyPress to iron on the design to the canvas.

Remove the plastic protective sheet from the design once it is pressed onto the canvas. Attach the canvas to the back of the frame using a stapler. Cut off the excess canvas with a pair of scissors.

Halloween Reverse Canvas How-to

The Halloween reverse canvas is now ready for adding to your festive decor.

What if we are really bad at crafting and don’t have a cricuit. is there a way to do a large print of this on photo paper?
