Hey there Eighteen25 friends! It’s a pleasure for us at Lolly Jane to be back and share our latest Halloween decor with you at this fun series we look forward to each season! This year we’re sharing our DIY Halloween Countdown Board that is sure to get us in the spooky spirit… and stop our littles from asking 12587 times before Halloween how many more days it is until they can go trick-or-treating! 😉
To get started we used a handful of crafts and items we already had lying around!
- 3′ x 1′ Board
- Vinyl stencil (we used our industrial cutter to design/cut)
- 5 spooky hues of acrylic paint:
- Orange, green, black, purple, white
- Paintbrush (We used a BB Frosch brush + cheapie foam)
- Mouse Traps x2
First, we painted our wood white. We remove the bottom hardware from the mouse trap (the long metal piece) and paint white over the wood + remaining hardware.
Using washi tape, we taped off stripes over the mouse traps then painted over the washi tape in black.
We applied our vinyl over the board and filled in the stencil with our fun acrylic colors. We removed the vinyl stencil and sanded the board down a bit to give it the distressed look we love so much. We hot glued the mouse traps to the board in between the brackets and hung the letters from the mouse trap clips. (We have the numbers 0-9 for FREE from our Chalkboard Calendar post.)
Once done we placed on Kelli’s recently revamped porch, paired with foam pumpkins and our Witch Broomstick.
Isn’t that framed skeleton silhouette we used on our Vintage Halloween Mantel too cute hung from the door so cute? It adds a bit of spook to the whole setup. 🙂
If this is too much work for you, try just printing off our Free Halloween Calendar Countdown Print and letting the kiddos cross off the days instead!

Loved this post! What is an industrial cutter? Are you referring to a Cricut or Silouette machine?
Lolly Jane says
Hi Jen, we have both of those personal craft machines but we use a 24″ commercial cutter. You can use either of the Silhouette or Cricut’s but since they are limited in size you’ll have to cut in sections. 🙂
