Hello awesome Eighteen25 readers! It’s Jenn here from Clean and Scentsible. I’m so excited to be back for another Spooktacular September! I remember reading this series eight years ago when I first started blogging and it’s always been such an amazing source of Halloween inspiration. Today I’m going to be sharing a fun, tasty and healthy Halloween smoothie with you. We call it goblin potion around here!
Goblin Potion
As much as I love Halloween, controlling the amount of junk food that the kids consume is always a bit of a challenge. That candy just seems to follow us around everywhere! So I decided to come up with a healthy Halloween recipe that would still be fun and get the kids in the holiday spirit. One of the best things about smoothies is that it’s so easy to hide healthy, nutrient-rich ingredients {like chia seeds, spinach, and even frozen cauliflower!} that they might not want to eat otherwise. This one is a trick AND a treat! 🙂
Halloween Smoothie Recipe
This goblin potion Halloween smoothie is quick and easy to make and you can easily swap out an ingredient or two to customize it to your particular taste {or for what you have on hand}. You can even add extra nutrient boosters like vanilla protein powder or flax seeds. Be sure to use frozen berries instead of fresh so it thickens up the smoothie enough that you can layer it. The slightly tart purple layer tastes delicious swirled with the sweeter orange layer for the perfect Halloween mash up!
- --Purple Layer
- 1¼ cup mixed frozen berries {I used a pre-packaged mix of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries}
- ½ cup vanilla Icelandic {Skyr} yogurt or Greek yogurt
- ½ cup - 1 cup baby spinach
- ⅓ ripe avocado
- 1 tbsp. chia seeds
- 1 cup coconut water
- 2-4 ice cubes
- --Orange Layer
- 1¼ cup frozen peaches
- ½ cup frozen cauliflower
- 1 cup orange juice
- ¼ cup coconut water if needed
- Combine all of the ingredients from the purple layer in a blender and blend until smooth. You want a nice thick consistency that you would eat with a spoon, but not so thick that you can't blend it smooth. If it's too thick, add a little more coconut water. If it's too thin, pop in a little more frozen fruit or ice cubes. Transfer the mixture to a large glass or other container and place in the fridge or freezer while blending the second layer.
- Combine all of the ingredients from the orange layer and blend until smooth. If needed, add a little extra liquid {if too thick} or a little more frozen fruit {if too thin} until you achieve roughly the same consistency as the purple layer.
- Using a clear glass cup or parfait dish, spoon in some of the purple smoothie. Add a layer of the orange smoothie on top and continue alternating layers until you've reached the top of the glass. Give it a little swirl at the top with a knife, and it's ready to serve. Eat with a spoon or let it slightly melt to drink with a straw.
Goblin Potion Printables
To make things a little more fun, I created a Goblin Potion printable and printable straw tags to go with it. You can really use the printable for any Halloween decor or vignette, and the straw labels work great for any Halloween party drink that you create. You can find them over on my blog by clicking HERE.
If you get a chance, I’d love for you to pop over to Clean and Scentsible and say hello. I love celebrating all of the holidays, and the blog will be jammed packed with seasonal decorating ideas, holiday crafts, and delicious recipes from now until Christmas. And, of course, I always have some DIY projects, easy cleaning tips, and a few organization projects in the works as well! 🙂
I hope you enjoy the Halloween smoothie and all of the holiday fun that Halloween brings! Since you’re obviously all in the Halloween spirit, here are a couple of my favorite Halloween projects from the blog…
