Hey there Eighteen 25 readers! I am so excited to be here during Spooktacular September to share a fun Halloween craft with you. I can’t thank Jen and Jodie enough for allowing me to be part of this super fun series. Such a creative group of bloggers sharing so much inspiration. Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I got into making holiday crafts that I realized just how fun it is to decorate for Halloween! Today I’m sharing with you this super cute pom pom spider garland.
I’ve been on a bit of a pom pom making craze lately. They are just too much fun to make! I don’t know if you’ve ever made a pom pom out of yarn before, but if not, here is a tutorial for you on how to make yarn pom poms. For these pom poms I just used my fingers for a guide. I first cut a piece of yarn about 12 inches long and put it between my two fingers and push the ends back out of the way. Then I start wrapping the yarn around my two fingers. I just wrap and wrap until I think I have enough. When I’m done wrapping, I cut the yarn and then pull the end of that 12 inch piece of yarn around and through my fingers so I can tie it together.
I slowly slide the yarn off my fingers as I pull the yarn tie tight. Once it’s off my fingers I pull as tight as I can and tie a knot in the yarn to keep it all together.
To make it look like a pom pom, I put my scissors into the loops of the yarn ball and start cutting. When all the loops are cut, it looks pretty shaggy. I just gave it a trim until it finally resembled a pom pom. This part can be a little time consuming. Just keep at it until you like the shape.
To make the garland I used a number 16 tapestry needle and some bakers twine. I strung all the pom poms on the baker’s twine first. There are certain ways that needle will go into the pom poms, so that’s why I did that first.
I cut some chenille pipe cleaners into 3rds to make the legs of my spiders. I just used some hot glue on the ends of each pipe cleaner and stuck them into the pom poms.
I bent the ends of the pipe cleaners down on the legs to make it seem like the spiders are walking.
All that was left to do was to hang it up!
I made it so the spiders could be walking on the wall or their legs could be hanging down.
This is a fun garland for hanging over a door, on a mantel or just wherever! This pom pom spider garland fits just about any Halloween decor you have.
