(on the road) keeping the backseat drivers happy

Jun112012 posted by Jodie 18 Comments

we have some long hours to spend in the car this summer…
as (i’m sure) most of you do.
this particular road trip will include:
a 10 year old
a 9 year old
a 6 year old
a 4 year old
a 2 year old
+
a 10 month old
so, i wanted to be prepared with some snacks (and individual trash bags)
and a little something for them to do.
here’s what i put together….

i used: (affiliate links are included in this post)

  • clear hinged containers – you can grab some on amazon HERE
  • white cardstock
  • letter stickers for the kids names
  • twine
  • a capri sun
  • fruit mentos
  • a bag of chips
  • cheese and crackers
  • color wonder activity
  • a gallon sized ziplock (for trash)

here are a few other ideas i found around the web.

Photobucket

marshmallow construction kit by polkadot prints
traveling treat boxes by PMK crafts

Oh I LOVE the eye spy game boards!! We're taking a trip next month, and those will be perfect to keep my little ones occupied…At least for a few minutes! And the munchie boxes? Love them! Something like that will surely beat constantly having to dig through a big bag or cooler for snacks. Thanks for sharing!

These are such fabulous ideas. I would even venture to travel more with my kiddos in the car (we have 5 also)if these treats would keep them from annoying eachother.

We did a 2day drive this past Christmas and have another planned for is summer. My 2 kids are younger at 5and 3 and obviously are still in car seats but those ziploc/glad little containers for sauces etc are the perfect size for their cup holders! So I could add a little bit of snack at a time and it wouldn't spill since it went straight into cup holder! I could also throw peanut butter for sliced apples at the bottom and then have a lid for it!! Also we had some night time travel and glow sticks were a huge hit!!!

Do you have any clue what a good snack would be for a teenager going on a 10 hour road trip with friends?(:
