if you have a green thumb, or not (like me), this is a fun little gift to make for teacher appreciation week. if you’re running out of time, it would make a great gift for a teacher at the end of the school year too.
and it comes in pink and blue.
get yourself a small flower pot, with holes in the bottom.
i found my blue pot in the dollar section at target
(there weren’t any holes in it, but it was easy to poke a few)
and the cheap terra cotta pot is from wal-mart.
(i ended up spray painting it pink to match my tag better)
i ordered my seeds (or red winter wheat) from this store online.
the directions say to let the seeds soak for 10-12 hours.
(i accidentally let mine sit in the water for about twice that long)
i figured i would give it a go anyway.
it took a little longer for my grass to grow.
(probably because i don’t follow directions very well. i ignored the part where it said to put them in direct light – my daughter pointed that out to me – and then we took them right outside).
it still only took about a week for my grass to grow tall and thick enough to trim.
however, only a couple blades grew in my other pot, so i’ve put new seeds in it and we’ll try again.
of course, this is another project where you’re going to need that 3″ punch.
hopefully you all have one now. 😉
head on over to download your tags.
print them off, punch them out,
back with a scallop circle,
attach to a wooden skewer
and stick ’em in your grass.
(i’m sure your grass will grow a lot better than mine)
. . . . . . . . . .
ETA: i purchased my 3″ circle punch from michaels but you can order them online here and here too. the scallop circle is cut from the cricut using the mini monograms cartridge at 4″.
i’ve also added some tags for friends download those here.

Can I ask where you got your 3" punch, and also how you make your scallop backing circle? Do you have a punch for the scallop too? What size? I am having trouble finding punches over 2" size. Thanks!

Could you tell me how much of the seed is needed for a small pot like this? I have a few of these I'd like to make for gifts, and I'm not sure what size bag I should purchase. Thanks, love the idea–it's adorable!

I am having some trouble trying to download this tag. After I select download, it asks me to either give back by uploading something of mine for free access, or pay a subscription to scribd. Is there a way around this option? And I can't find on my computer under my downloads that the download even took place. So I think I have to take care of the above option in order to get the download to work. Am I doing something wrong?
