Pretty Bathroom Jars

Aug292013 posted by Jodie and Jen 39 Comments

We’d love for you to follow along with us on Instagram – Pinterest – Facebook
I’m in love with the new shower curtain I bought for my kids bathroom. (target) The colors and design are just too fun. I decided to decorate some jars that we could hold cotton balls, Q-tips and cotton rounds in. The result makes me so happy. I love the way our pickle jars turned into such pretty storage.

We were recently sent some of the brand new Americana multi-surface Satin paint. I’ve been a fan of Americana paints for many years… so I was excited to give these a try.
Supplies:
• pickle jars – or other glass jars with lids
• Americana multi-surface paint – we used the colors pumpkin patch, pink cadillac, coastal waters
• curio knobs (we used the tim holtz ones found at michaels)
• paint brushes
• E-6000 glue

Steps:
• I put my pickle jars and lids through a couple cleaning cycles in the dishwasher
• We picked out 3 colors and gave each lid about 4-5 coats. (I should have gave them a quick coat of grey primer – it would have saved me a couple coats –  the words on the lids can be a pain to cover completely)
• Then we put them aside and let them air cure for 7 days
• We took the bottom screw out of our curio knobs and used the E-6000 to glue the knobs to the center of each lid.
• Let that dry for another 24 hours and then they are ready to be used

*This post is sponsored by DecoArt. We received compensation as well as product to complete this project. However, my love and opinion for Americana paints is all my own. 🙂

You can find knobs at Target. I use spray paint to paint jars.

Love the jars but where did you find the curio knobs? I have been looking for some for a couple of years and have not been successful. Thanks for any help.

These are Tim Holtz and can be purchased at Michael's or JoAnns, or online at a scrapbook store or amazon.

What kind of paintbrush works best? Foam or bristle? I don't know if I could get coverage that even. The jars look amazing.

When you painted the lids, did it leave brush strokes? I’m using a sponge paint brush and it’s leaving stroke lines.

Hi Margaret! We used regular brushes and they did leave slight brush strokes. If you hate the stroke lines you could try a few thin coats of spray paint instead? Sorry about that! 🙁

I think this is a cute way to use some glass jars I hate to throw away. I love that shower curtain and how the lids match. It's all colorful and cheerful. Thank you for sharing your idea.
Ladies, the curio knobs are by Tim Holtz at Michaels. She has that listed next to them in the supply list.

Can you use wall paint? Just moved into a brand new house and have paint left over from the bedrooms.

I will for sure let you know. Also, instead of super gluing the knobs on, I used the screws that came with it, cut the screws down, and screwed the knob on. Worked great! Now I just need to the knobs back off and paint. I'm thinking of spraying an acrylic sealer over the paint. It might make it more shiny

Excellent idea to use the brown paper template. I collect clocks also but have never displayed them well. I will give this a try.
