Painted Photo Bottles

May12013 posted by Jodie and Jen 17 Comments

We are excited to share today’s Mother’s Day Project with you…
We Think You’re Awesome
Painted Photo Bottles
These are so fun, easy and inexpensive to make. We hope you’ll give them a try.
supplies:
• glass bottles with corks – we found these at Michaels for $1.19
• paper clips
• photos
• Awesome print – download 4×6 HERE
• acrylic paint – the colors we used are: craft smart – ocean breeze, robins egg blue and aqua
and apple barrel – pure pink, light yellow and bright blue
the how-to:
• pour your paint directly into the jar and swirl it around until the entire inside is covered
• if you have a lot of excess paint… pour it out or let the jars sit upside down and drain for a couple minutes
• let the jar dry at least 24 hours
• use a knife to cut a slit in the top of the cork then insert your paper clip
• print your photos and trim – we had ours printed at costco – wallet size (4 come on a 5×7)
• print the Awesome tag and trim
then decide how you’d like to group them:
pictures and the print…
just the print…
[there is a tag included that reads – I think you’re awesome – as well]
 just pictures…
of course these would make fun gifts for more than just Mother’s Day.
Make some for:
Grandma
Teachers
Graduates
Friends
and for yourself of course!

Do you have to thin the paint at all? Also, how much paint?? I've tried this technique twice & the paint just seems too thick! I could not get even coverage, no matter what kind of bottle I used, or how much paint!
A few more details would be much appreciated, as these type of jars are fantastic!
    Thanks, LadyG

Hey ladies! Just wanted to let you know that I made your cute clipboard summer countdown and it's featured today over on my blog at I Dig Pinterest. I switched it up a bit, because I just love chalkboard surfaces! I hope you'll check it out.

hi anonymous! i like to buy the super cheap paints. they are usually pretty thin and that makes it easy to move the paint around. these particular bottles are pretty small and easy to get all the surface covered. i also move the paint around for probably an hour. tilt it to one side and leave it for a couple minutes… tilt it to the other side and leave it… and then let the excess drain out. hope that helps! 🙂

I also had a problem with the paint being to thick but I was able to move the paint around hitting the bottle with my hand. But once I let them sit upside down the excess paint fell to the top and some of the paint fell so the bottle is not streaky. Help! I wanted to make them for mothers day

This paint is water soluble, if it's to thick mix with a few drops of water before pouring into the jar.

What type of paint should I use? How do you dry them without the paint streaking?

These are gorgeous. So clever in design, yet simple in materials and execution. This is one DIY that really knocks it out of the par!!
