‘Tis the season for fun! And, there isn’t much that’s more fun than a Christmas advent calendar. While this isn’t a traditional advent calendar, the fun still isn’t lost. Instead of opening a box or marking a number, let the kids search the Christmas tree for the right little toy capsule to open. And, it’s really easy to make! We just turned these little vending machine capsules into ornaments with a count down number on the bottom.
To start, you will need:
1 inch circle paper punch
Glue
Twine
Candies and small toys for the inside
First, print and cut out the free printable. Use a 1 inch circle paper punch, or a similar paper punch, to cut out the circles. Use the glue to glue a small string of twine to the top of a capsule and a circle number to the bottom piece of a capsule. Repeat until you have numbers glued onto 24 capsules.
Next, once the glue has dried, fill the capsules with little treats and small toys. We filled ours with some Christmas candy, small balloons, Santa’s sleigh bell, small Christmas ornaments, and more!
After every capsule is full, hang the capsule ornaments on the tree. Then, everyday in December, let your kids search the tree to find the countdown capsule of the day!
And, be sure to check out this awesome advent calendar! I think a few capsule ornaments would look great on it as well.

Very cute. 🙂 My little guys would love to do open up little treats each day, of course!
