today’s craft: corn syrup paintings
(idea from our friend heather)
what you need:
* glossy art paper
* corn syrup
* food coloring
* crayons
* paint brushes
step one: pour some corn syrup into a bowl and add about 10 drops of food coloring. stir well.
step two: with your crayons, draw a picture on the paper.
step three: paint your picture.
step four: let it dry. (it takes awhile)

i believe the glossy art paper was found in the art section at michaels.

Making other learn the art of drawing is a great thing. And making them learn this way is the best. They will be able to learn from their homes only.

That is so pretty! I'd love to try it out. You say it takes a while to dry – what kind of time frame are we talking about? I live in Orlando, Florida, and it is extremely humid. And when it is dry is it still tacky/sticky?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this; it is SUPER cute!! I do have one ignorant question (since no one question is stupid….right:0)). Does the corn syrup attract ants? We live sort of in the country and I have to be really careful not to attract them..(spoken from experience). Thanks for your input.
My daughter is so excited to try this! I just showed her and she though it was cool. I'm gathering ideas to keep us busy this summer. Yikes. One more week.

love this! My coworker does this with her pre-k students. It does take a while to dry. Just a warning..this will melt and run if it gets warm (over the weekend in our building).

whatever you do don't have a class full of 4 year olds do this, let dry for 2 days then hang them on a bulletin board on Friday. Monday morning you will be welcomed back by a great big sticky mess! Just saying.

Can't find glossy art paper at Michael's or another craft supply store. Is there possibly another name for it?
Finger painting paper might work. I also wonder if clear plastic sheets would be fun for sort of a stained glass effect.

Can you spray this with acrylic sealer to maintain it by chance?
I have that glossy finger paint paper…I wonder if that will work…

My son's class made these. They were beautiful. Unfortunately, once the heat of the summer started, the dried project started MELTING and attracting ants. I was so bummed to have to toss them in the trash.
Has anyone tried this project without glossy paper? I don't have glossy paper available at my school.
I think the glossy paper is used to avoid the corn syrup being absorbed into the paper. Finger painting paper could probably be used if your school has that.
