One of our Michael’s Makers projects for this month was to make something that we wanted to make all last year, but never got around to it. After whipping up this garland, I really wish I hadn’t waited so long. It was so simple to make and the tassels can be thrown together during one episode of the Bachelor!
LOVE those kinds of projects!
SUPPLIES:
– Sugar ‘n Cream Yarn in Tangerine, Red Rouge and Mod Green
– Creatology Gold Knotting Cord (in the kids crafts)
– Needle (with a large eye)
TO MAKE THE TASSELS:
We used a 3 1/2″ piece of cardboard to wrap the yarn around 40 times. Tie a not at the top and flip the cardboard over and cut the opposite end of the yarn. Remove your tassel from the cardboard and fold your tassel in half (with the knot at the top and the cut end at the bottom). Tie another piece of yarn about 3/4″ down from your first knot.
After you make all of your tassels, thread your Knotting Cord through the needle and run your needle and cord through each of the tassels.
(Gold vinyl triangles found here)
One piece of advice…make a Yarn Tassel Garland tomorrow not next year! What other projects are on your to-do list for 2015? Stop by Michaels’ blog The Glue String for inspirations from all 30 of the Michaels Makers.
Check back later today and see how we organized some of our craft supplies. We are in LOVE with how it turned out.

Your instructions are confusing. Can you add some photos to explain it better? This is so cute and I really want to make one!
Jen says
Sorry about that Deborah. If you get the stuff and kinda try it as you read it, it's actually pretty easy. If we have some free time in the next week we'll try to get some pics up though! 🙂 Thanks!

Can't wait to make this! Where can I get that print?
Alexandra Richards says
What a cute little garland! Especially since you can change out the colors per time of year.
I would love if you shared this at our Yarn Fanatic Linky Party – http://eyeloveknots.blogspot.com/2015/01/yarn-fanatic-linky-party-20.html.
And don't forget to enter the giveaway while you're there!

I dont understand the instructions either :/ What shape cardboard? What type of knot? What way do you flip the cardboard?? hmm…. might try another site

Well, I am 76yrs. old and the instructions are perfect… depending on what length you want the tassel to be that is the length of the piece of cardboard…the cardboard needs to be sturdy so that it won”t curl up….wrap it 40 times…..now take a piece of yarn slide it thru an end and tie it off…following this so far..a double knot is fine …
leave enough yarn to tuck it in with the tassel….then slide the cardboard out…now take the tassel and a second piece of yarn long enough
so that it will be tucked in …now wrap the yarn several times around so that the tassel now looks like it has a head..tie it off..next…take your
and cut the end of the tassel thru the loops ….and like magic you have a tassel…..if you do not get it this time, go ahead to another site …then you can insult them …how rude the next generation is …what the hell has happened??? People don’t give a hoot if they hurt another’s feelings….my advice is change your attitude, start treating people the way you want to be treated…I think I’ve heard that before..Mary Kay Pousa

Agree with the above commenters. These are the worst, most unclear directions I have ever read. I will go to another site to get ideas from, since your response to the first cry for help was crappy also.
Jodie and Jen says
Haha. I had to go back and read my response that you thought was so crappy. Sorry you took such offense to all of it. It was not my intent. All i’m trying to say is… once you are holding the items it makes more sense when you are reading the instructions. Hope you can find someone that explains it better. 🙂
Mary Kay Pousa says
You need to read my comment just slightly above yours…so my message is for all of the BRATS out there…I wish I knew what you do for a living….I hope that you are not any ones superior….would hate having to work for a boss like yoy…
Doris says
I seriously cannot understand nasty people. Those comments are so uncalled for. Instructions are easy to follow! Even if I just imagine doing it, without having the actual yarn in my hands, they make sense. Thank you for this!
