I thought I should probably introduce myself. I’m Jamie. The middle sister. I’m the one in charge of creating stuff on the computer to share with you all. I’m not the one that sews. I don’t even own a sewing machine. As a matter of fact… to do the sewing on this project, I had to use one of the travel sewing kits I took from a hotel a year ago (i bagged a kit every day we were there – so i’m good for a couple more projects).
For this one…
start with an assortment of 9″ x 12″ felt sheets (only 29 cents at the craft store)
cut 3″ x 3″ squares (each pinwheel uses two different colored squares)
then cut 1.5″ slits at each corner going in towards the center
(do not go all the way in)
if you want to use thread and needle…
thread your needle and knot the end.
then push the needle up through the center of your squares
next, go up through every other corner.
place a button in the center of your pinwheel and sew up and down through it a couple times.
knot the thread in the back.
and last, hot glue your barrette onto the back.
the next one i made was completely hot glued together.
that went a little faster. 🙂
and here’s the finished project….
cuter than cute!
how fun! thanks for sharing how to make these:)
Very cute idea and I think I could actually do it! Great idea as a party favor for little girls.

Terri

SO CUTE!!! I LOVE that you stole your sewing kit from the hotel. Thats what I do to! No wonder were friends;)
Love it, Love it, love it… and I'm a sucker for a little girl in glasses!
I LOVE these. I will be whipping up some of these for presents for sure!
How adorable! Thanks for sharing. Man, I need a girl!
Thanks for the great idea. I was so excited about it when I saw it this morning that I had to try it. The only problem was I was at work and couldn't leave to to go get felt. So then came the idea to use scrapbooking paper. I cut out the squares then laminated them. Way cute. If you would like to see it I would be happy to send a picture!! Thanks for all you guys do.
Love it!! My next project is to make some hair clips for my daughters and I will definitely be adding these to the list. SOOOOO cute!!
Those are so cute! I bet they'd look really cute on flip flops too! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I love this! I am making these into a garland first chance I get (I'm a little old for pinwheels in my hair) and put it in my craft room for a fun dash of summer color! Thanks for sharing!
Glad to see you guys are back! I love this idea. If my daughter ever grows some hair I will have to put this on my to-do list!
Love these! If only I had a little girl to make them for! Maybe I'll stash a few away in the gift drawer anyway.
so adorable! love it!
When I saw this I gasped. Literally. Over a hairclip? I know, maybe I need a nap. But these are adorable and I am in love. Thank you.
Such a cute, clever idea! Love it!

These are super cute! I just wanted to leave a little thank you to you girls. I just made 2 of the teacher boxes, and they turned out adorable. The teachers loved them. Thank you for sharing all of your cute ideas!
Sew cute, from one middle sister to another!
I made these for my daughter and niece a few days ago and they LOVE them. They made me make their dolls a pair of matching ones too!
Very Cute, even on 7 and 8 yr olds!
cute idea..thanks! I had some felt but then I tried some foam sheets that I had and they turned out super cute too! We'll just call them water-proof pinwheels!
I LOVE felt hair clips! They are so quick and satisfying to make. And these are just the cutest thing ever! I am definately making a pile of these! They would be cute to put on top of a present too.
Oh this is so cute!!! Thank you so much for sharing, I am sure my little girls and my nieces will love pinwheel hair accessories.

Ok, so this question is from the clueless mom of two boys…that said, are you just using regular old felt from the store? As in from the craft section or is this some type of felted wool? Thanks 🙂
PS I want to make some for girl gifts *grin* not for my boys!
These are so super duper cute!
Too cute! I made one for my daughter and she loves it. And it's so easy to do! I've linked this to my blog to share with others. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for posting this! My girls and two of the neighbor girls made these today and they are TOO cute! So easy too! We did blue & red with a white button in the middle. We're soon moving back to the USA (!!), so I chose those colors for the flag. And, our neighbor girls come from Croatia…and that's the colors of their flag as well!
Thanks so much for sharing these! I made a few up for my daughter's birthday and just did a blog post with a link back to you! If you want to check it out, the link is: http://sittingatourkitchentable.blogspot.com/2011/07/pinwheel-hair-clip.html
