Today we are sharing something for those people that might not quite make the nice list… yes… the naughty list folks…. or those friends with a fun sense of humor. We first came across this idea on pinterest and knew immediately that we’d have to give it a try and make a little tag to go with it. So today we’ll be sharing Christmas Coal. Of course it’s the yummy kind made with rice krispies.
Lump of Coal
(for naughty boys and girls)
What you’ll need:
1/4 cup butter
10.5 ounce bag mini marshmallows
4 cups rice krispie cereal (this is cut down from the regular rice krispies recipe)
black icing color (can be found at most craft stores)
bags or containers
ribbon or tulle
cardstock
tag – download HERE
What you’ll need to do:
melt the butter on low and then add your marshmallows. once that is all melted add your black coloring. (it took a bit of coloring to get it to go from purple to black for us) then stir in your rice krispies until they are all covered with the marshmallow mixture. then just take out small handfuls and mold them into odd shapes. voila… yummy Christmas coal.
then just find a cute container to put it in.
this paint can came from Joann’s craft store and then i just tied a green grosgrain bow on the side.
i printed out the tag on white cardstock and used a 3″ circle punch to cut the tag out and backed it in a 4″ scalloped circle.
for this gift i just placed a couple pieces of Christmas coal in a treat bag and tied with red grosgrain ribbon. i printed the tag out on kraft paper and just cut around the square. i used an old ink pad around the edges.
i was so excited to find this little container in Target’s dollar spot. again i just printed the tag out on white cardstock and used my 3″ circle punch and it was the perfect size for the top. a black tulle bow adds just a little fluff.
so…
our last question is…
do you have some friends (or children) on the naughty list that could use some Christmas coal this year???
we recently shared this post on i{heart}nap time.

Lump of coal!!! Great!
Does the black dye turn your mouth or hands black when eaten?
I made these and YES they turn your mouth a little black, but it fades quickly. They were perfect!! I can't wait to leave them on my friends' doors to find in the morning. I left it with a note from Santa telling them they made the naughty list. Such a fun idea! Thanks!!
What a fun idea! There will certainly be some of these coming out of our kitchen next Christmas!
Excellent Blog post, love the photos
I can't believe what a briliant idea this is! I have to make these for my girlfriends!!!! Thankyou so much for the free tag download 🙂
Brilliant! I know some very naughty children who I am going to make these for instead of expensive toys!
I made a different version of this
1 package of oreos
1 bag of mini marshmallows
4 tbsp. margarine
(you could use black food coloring if you like)
Finely crush the oreos (some small chuncky pieces are fine). To do this, I placed 4-5 cookies in a bowl at a time and used a flat-bottomed cup to break, crush, and grind them.
Make these just like rice krispie treats, and plop onto well-greased pan while hot. Instead of pressing down, form into coal-lumps while warm and transfer to greased surface to cool completely.
how many babbies would you say this recipes will make?
