I am SO excited to be sharing with you a fun and engaging activity that you can do with your little ones!  With summer quickly approaching this activity is sure to keep little hands busy all while helping imaginations soar!
I LOVE homemade playdough.  I have made this recipe for years, and it makes the softest playdough.  It is non-toxic, contains a few ingredients that you already have in your kitchen and won’t dry out quickly like the store bought brands.

To make your own homemade playdough you will need the following ingredients:
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar {can be found in the spice isle of your grocery store}
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 cup water
  • food coloring

Mixing instructions:
Mix the first three ingredients in a pan.  In a separate bowl combine the water, oil & food coloring.  Add the liquid mixture into the flour mixture and mix well.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3-5 minutes.  Dough will become very difficult to stir and start to form a clump.  Remove from stove and knead for a few minutes.  Store your playdough in an air tight or plastic bag.  If you would like to make several colors from one batch you may add the food coloring to the dough after it is cooked.
See?  It is so easy to make your own playdough!

I thought that it would be fun to create a playdough mat for you as well.  I love the idea of using playdough to help learn colors and even shapes.  Print your FREE playdough mat  and laminate it so that you can use it time and time again! Placing small amounts of playdough on the mat is a wonderful way to help your little ones enhance their fine motor skills while matching the color of the playdough to the color on the mat.

My almost three year old niece Emerson was delighted with her playdough mat and the playdough.  She had a blast!

I hope that your little ones enjoy this recipe as much as mine did!  Homemade playdough makes a wonderful party favor for an art party, a get well gift for a sick little one, a perfect rainy day activity or a thoughtful birthday gift.

      I think the color chart accidentally got put under the May Freebie – Playdough Recipe.
