Hey, hey, hey! Michelle Hinckley here from 4men1lady.com. I’m thrilled to get to share with you one my ultimate chalkboard hacks today! Chalkboards are all the rage these days. And why shouldn’t they be? They are such a fun way to jot a list on the wall or doodle some art. But if you aren’t a good artist (like me) then it just looks bad. Really bad. The extent of my artistic ability stops at stick figures which is why I fake it.
I’ve been shopping school auctions for years now. I happen to score an overhead projector for $5.00 a while back. It’s my secret for drawing fancy murals on chalkboards and walls.
The first thing I do is put together a digital picture that would be good for tracing. If you aren’t hep on Photoshop then a user-friendly online alternative (and free) is something like Picmonkey. It took me less than 10 minutes to put together this Spooktacular Halloween image.
Next I print the picture on to an over head transparency. You can buy a box of these from any office store or buy one for $0.50 each at Fedex.
Just lay it on the overhead projector, shine it on the wall and start tracing.
I usually wait until it’s dark outside so the image shines brighter on the wall or I go down to the dungeon (basement) where it’s dark and work.
The great thing about working with chalk is that you can always erase if you mess up.
Never would I be able to free-hand this.
You’ll for sure impress people and trick them in to thinking you’re a talented artist.
*Tip: Thinking about investing in an overhead projector? Check at schools first and see if they may be getting rid of any. You can also find them online and at most major office stores.
