Hello there! This is Katie from The Casual Craftlete blog and I am so excited to be apart of Eighteen25’s Spooktacular September! Today, I am sharing a fun Halloween treat along with a free printable to decorate treat bags. These chocolate covered owl pretzels are a fun and easy food craft for the kiddos to help with. Not only are these owls cute but they also taste delicious. Halloween will be a real hoot!
Chocolate Covered Owl Pretzels
Supplies: (affiliate links are included in this post)
- Mini Pretzel Twists
- Light Cocoa Candy Melts
- Candy Eyeballs
- Orange Slices Candy
- Ziploc Bag or Pipping Bag
- Polka Dot Treat Bags
- Trick or Treat Printable (download below)
Instructions:
- Start by melting the light cocoa candy melts following the instructions on the package. I use a microwave safe bowl and heat the candy melts in the microwave. Once the melts are smooth and runny, get the mini pretzel twists ready. Use a fork to submerge pretzels into melted candy and tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess candy. Place chocolate covered pretzels on a piece of parchment or wax paper to dry.
- Fill a pipping bag or Ziploc bag with melted candy. Cut a small hole in the bag creating a tip and squeeze melted candy in the openings of the pretzels. While the chocolate is still wet, place candy eyeballs in the openings.
- Use a knife to cut a small triangle out of the orange slice candy. Use the melted candy to attach the nose to the pretzel. Let set completely.
I made a cute little trick or treat bag using a polka dot favor bag, ribbon, and the free Halloween printable. Simply print and cut the printable and tape it to the front of the bag. I added a white ribbon using a hole punch for an added touch. Fill the bag with chocolate covered owl pretzels for a cute treat.

If you have a good quality printer at home, just print as many copies as you like. I don’t have a good printer at home so I take the files to my local Staples store and have them print on glossy photo paper. I like how the images look on the glossy photo paper but you can use a heavy white cardstock too.
