Black & White Halloween Plates

I’m Nikkala from The Crafting Chicks and I’m excited to be here for Spooktacular September. These girls are awesome!
My Halloween decor is black and white with a few pops of color here and there. I fell in love with Rhonna’s Insta Spooky font last year and knew I needed it in my house. Rhonna originally designed the font to use on Instagram, but since it is a true type font you can use it in your Silhouette Studio–which opens up all sorts of wonderful things you can do with it! And with 26 designs you can’t go wrong. So instead of buying the Halloween plates I’d been drooling over, I created my own.

I started with 3 silver trays I picked up at Dollar Tree.

And gave them a good coat of black and white spray paint. Because my kids are vinyl pickers I prefer to use the vinyl as a stencil, so I made sure my bottom color was the color I wanted my image to be when it was all said and done. If your kids can leave things alone you can skip the last step.

While the paint was drying I opened up the Silhouette software and created my images. Make sure you measure your trays before you start painting and keep your designs in those dimensions. I played around with the bats and the haunted house to create the rectangle tray. Rhonna’s Halloween designs are so fun that I had a hard time selecting just 3 and I’m pretty sure I’ll be using some of them on pillows t00.

Once the paint has dried you can apply the vinyl and paint again. Or you can just apply the vinyl and be finished!

I’ve had friends ask me where I found these, and I just shrug and say, “The dollar store.”

Thanks for letting me share with you today, we’d love to have you visit for more inexpensive Halloween ideas.
