{birthday week} The Birthday Box

Mar182011 posted by Jamie 43 Comments

Happy Birthday to us… Happy Birthday to us…
I can’t believe it’s been a year already.
(And, surprisingly, we never got the urge to strangle each other – haha)
We have found so many new friends over the last 365 days and that makes us so happy.
We hope you will all stick with us for at least, another 365.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Now on to today’s project…

the birthday box

Jennifer and Jodie came up with this clever idea.
Every year they’ll make a sheet (like the one further down) for each of their kids,
including a photo and a little questionnaire for the child to fill out themselves.
Then place the sheet inside the box for safe keeping.

We spray painted the outside of the box.
And to decorate the lid, we used vinyl and the Silhouette,
but you could use rub-ons, stickers, stencils….
Then we just added a little fun with the pom pom trim. (just hot glued it on)

The following photos show the size and fonts used…

and here is a sample page for the inside…
*how sweet and special would it be if you wrote them a letter each year and attached it to the back of their birthday page?   a priceless keepsake…

as soon as they are old enough have them fill it out themselves. that way you can see how their cute handwriting changes through the years.  ðŸ™‚

As always, another fabulous idea. It's wonderful to have such amazing blogs like yours to go to. It makes us (and by us I mean me)uncrafty people look really good. We just borrow your amazing ideas and people think we're wonderful. At some point someone is going to catch on to me and then the jig is up. So…until then…thank you, thank you, thank you.

Love! Love! Love! it! can't wait to start one for my little man. Even though he's only 2, I can do the writing now, and he can color on it. I'll be starting this today!

I also love the idea of the letter. I don't scrapbook AT ALL, but I do love doing online scrapbooking. I make a book a year for my little man, then my husband and I each write a letter for him in the covers.

Love it! And my oldest is just getting old enough for it. It will still be fun when they're too young to write their own answers though.

Happy Birthday, Ladies! …and many, many more. However, in just the last couple of days you have given me FOUR, yes FOUR, things to make and I can't keep up. Please throw in some stinker ideas so I can get these projects done! You three are just FABULOUS! Cannot wait to make the birthday box for my daughter to record my granddaughters' birthdays. What an heirloom! My creative juices are just gushing. Thank you so much for your inspiration and hard work. I watch a LOT of blogs and your's is by far THE BEST! Thanks again,

I have done this idea but I put them in a binder for each of my kids – the box is an adorable idea though! We also let them make out a "menu" for the day and both my husband and I fill out some of our "fav memories" of them over the past year. It becomes a little journal for them and super fun to look back on over the years!

I've been following for a while, but I may have missed the meaning of the name of your blog. (or maybe I'm just clueless and everyone else who reads your blog understands it…?) What does it mean?

I LOVE this idea and intially thought how sad my girls are now adults – but you know what? I am going to do this with my parents (who will be 72 and 77 this year!), my husband who is turning 60 and our daughters who are 25 and 28 this year! I will put them all in one box and have record of each of us by the year. It's genius is in the simplicity 🙂 Thank you so much for a brilliant idea.

I love this idea, and am excited to use it on my child's birthday this month! A couple questions though with the box… is it one of the paper mache ones that JoAnn's sells or is it wooden (or some other material)? Also, did you primer it first and/or seal it afterwards?

    Thanks for this wonderful idea!

hi amber. it is one of those paper mache boxes and we just spray painted it. no primer or sealer. but i'm sure it wouldn't hurt if you wanted to do either one of those things.
so glad you like the idea!
