SUPPLIES:
• canvas (we used an 8×10 oval one)
• dmc thread (about 8 or 9 skeins) in a few different colors
• needle
• draw your heart on the back of the canvas.
• thread the needle.
• then starting in the back, pull a good length of thread through and tie a knot.
• take the thread around the outside of the canvas and back through the back side.
• continue going around the heart outline, leaving about a 1/4″ space to add your other colors.
• once you get to the end of a piece of thread, just tie it to the beginning of that same piece (the one you tied a knot in).
• when you’re done with one color, start with the next until you’ve filled in a lot of the space around the outline of your heart.

So clever! I need some canvas! 🙂

I love this! This method could be used with any shape, even with initials. Are you using the full pull of thread, or dividing it into sections when threading the needle?
Jamie says
Hi Rae… i did not divide the thread into sections.

Did you find your Oval canvas at Michaels or Hobby Lobby? Super cute, guys!
Jamie says
Courtney… I'm pretty sure it was Hobby Lobby. Michaels didn't have any round or oval (that I could find anyways)

Super cute! I love Downton Abbey. I can't wait for Season 3 to come to Australia.

I remember doing something similar for my mother as a Christmas Ornament. It was always my favorite crafty piece. I need to do more with yarn/twine. This is a great idea. Just different enough in the way of materials. Cute.
